Time To Step It Up…
By chance, I noticed a really good deal on a 3D printer pop up on one of the “deal sites” I check each day. I had been really impressed with the 3D parts I had ordered from shapeways.com, but they can be quite expensive. I also know that there are a LOT of 3D printable files available for free on the internet for pretty much anything Boba Fett. So, I decided to take the chance and jump into the 3D printing game by buying an Anet A8 3D Printer kit.
The printer arrived as a big box full of pieces, which had to be assembled. After a couple of days of watching the building instructions via youtube videos, I had “functional” 3D printer!
One note about 3D printers, if you want something that will print perfectly right out of the box, you will need to spend a LOT of money. Me, being the cheapskate that I am, always tries to go the more frugal way. In this case, buying a 3D printer that you must assemble, and calibrate, before it will print anything even remotely half decent. I love building things, so the extra time spent doesn’t bother me, plus I now know all of the parts of this printer, and if anything goes wrong, I can hopefully diagnose it and be back up and running in no time.
