Make It Look Like Metal…
Time to paint…

First coat of silver base paint applied.
Documenting My Journey to Becoming Boba Fett
Still a little ways to go…
Sanded with some 500 grit sandpaper, and then noticed there was still evidence of the high points on the curve.
Sanded again with some 220 grit sandpaper…
Then, I gave it a fourth coat of filler primer. This looks good, and is now ready for the silver paint.
The “for sale” sign plastic is turning out to be quite brittle. So, I’m rethinking it’s uses in high stress areas…
I re-glued the extension joint and then used some actual PLA scrap as reinforcement on the back side.
I then used a soldering iron to “weld” the pieces together, adding some fresh filament to fill in the gaps.
The cooled weld was then filed down with a metal file.
After filing everything flush, there are now some low spots…
Added a nice coating of glazing putty over the entire repair area.
Starting to get a lot smoother…
Oh, SNAP! Not good… There seems to be a weak point in the area where the extension was added.
After some sanding with 500 grit sandpaper, I think those print lines are almost completely gone.
After the third coat of primer. Print lines are just barely there, now…
With the print lines still showing, it’s time to get a bit more aggressive…
First, some sanding with 500 grit sandpaper…
Then, some heavy filing with a metal file…
This removed almost all of the primer and previous glazing putty…
And, finally, added a new layer of glazing putty.
Time to make it smooth…
The Back Belt has the same rough curve that the Shoulder Bells had…
So, I’m bringing in the heavy tools early…
It may not look pretty, but it gets the job done.
Now, the other side…
Pretty well knocked down all of the high points.
Then, it gets a layer of glazing putty.
