Continuing the 3D redesign…
I found an almost straight on shot of the Whipcord Launcher from the Prototype suit. The Launcher on this Gauntlet is pretty much identical to the one that was used on the Empire Strikes Back Gauntlet. So, I’m going to start again, using this as my reference point…
I’ve never created anything in a 3D program, but I’m giving it a shot…
I imported my scaled template into SketchUp and drew up new panel pieces that fit the template.
I then assembled all of the 3D pieces to build the Whipcord Launcher. It’s a little better than the original file I had, but it still seems a little too chunky. Back to the drawing board…
After printing the Whipcord Launcher and comparing it to actual screen shots, I’m seeing a lot of issues that I’m not 100% happy with; mainly, it’s too big and chunky. I went looking for a new 3D print file, but couldn’t find anything that looked close enough to the actual screen used Whipcord Launcher. So, I’m going to try to create my own…
I started by working from a template I found that was semi-close. I scaled a screen shot to my printed out Right Gauntlet parts and got some rough dimensions. I then scaled the found template to the dimensions that I figure the Whipcord Launcher should be and cut them out.

After printing the top of this Gauntlet and comparing it to actual screen shots, I’m seeing some issues that I’m not 100% happy with. So, I went into the original file, made some edits, and I’m going to try reprinting it. One positive thing, I can now get the entire top done in one print…

Fett’s Gauntlets are some of the coolest weaponry he uses. However, for the Empire Strikes Back version, it’s extremely difficult to find nice, accurate 3D print files. I did find some that are fairly close, but I believe they will require a lot of modification. The top of this Gauntlet is too big for my build plate, so I had to cut it in half…
