Scout Trooper – Armor – Detonator – Modding

It’s All About The Details…

Making it screen accurate…

A recent discovery, by a member of the 501st Pathfinders (ShaunPug), was that the cording used on the Thermal Detonator tube is actually this type of extension cord. So, this is what I’m going with.

First step, remove the ends…

Next step, split the cable into two separate pieces. Only one side will get used (the side with the grooves gets discarded).

Scout Trooper – Armor – Detonator – Assembly, Continued

Putting It Together…

Adding one of the greebles…

Rather than just gluing the greeble to the main box, I will be using small screws to help better secure it. First, I placed the greeble into position, and then used painter’s tape to mark where I need to drill holes, so that they will align with the thickest parts of the greeble.

Connecting the dots, to find the exact spots…

The holes were drilled, then the screws were partially installed…

I installed the screws until they were just barely coming out of the surface…

I then used the screws to make marks on the back of the greeble where the holes need to be drilled. Once t hat was done, it was just a matter of screwing in the screws.

Inside of the main box, with the screws fully tightened.

Scout Trooper – Armor – Back Tank Topper – Painting

Adding Color…

Making it more screen accurate…

The Tank Topper needs to get some detail paint work…

I used a small brush to paint the red.

Then, applied a second coat of red…

And, then a third coat of red. The red is nice and intense now.

Then, I used some black to clean up where the red got up on the sides of the little “trench”.

For the white disc, I’m going to try using masking tape and a paint marker. First, I drew the circle onto the tape…

Then I cut the circle out with an exacto…

Removal of the circle…

The mask was then placed into the correct position on the tank topper.

The paint marker…

I applied some white…

After a few more coats of white, I removed the mask. It’s not perfect, but I think I should be able to clean it up…

After a little bit of cleaning up. That looks like it should do.
