Making It A Bit More Interesting
The original rangefinder was thought to have used 3 seed lamps (one in each hole of the perspex block) to light it up. I want to try and emulate that effect without using the seed lamps. I am going to try to work with the green LED to see what I can come up with…

Since the green LED lights up the entire block, I’m going to try and create some type of reflecting surface behind the block that will, hopefully, look like it’s coming from within the block. A toothpick is about the same diameter of the holes, so I’m going to start with that…

I removed the tapered ends, then used some sandpaper to remove about half of the wood, making it it a half-cylinder.

To make the reflective part, I’m going to try adding aluminum foil…

I applied some glue, then tightly wrapped the rounded side of the toothpick with the foil.

I trimmed off the excess foil, and scored it to cut it into 3 pieces…
