Let’s Make These Screen Accurate…
It’s nearing the middle of October, and I’m really wanting to try and get this costume done by Halloween. I have two major parts remaining; the Gloves and the Boots. The gloves seem to be the bigger challenge, so I’ll be tackling those first…
It’s been over three years ago since I deconstructed this Glove…
The leather I picked up from eBay is an almost perfect match, color-wise and weight-wise.
In order to try and keep this manageable, I’m going to break it down in to smaller tasks. The first task will be the tops of the fingers…
I separated the two fingers at the seam…
The pinky finger side needs to get a smooth leather covering…
Using the existing piece, I found a piece of new leather to fit…
Then, traced the pattern onto the leather…
Then, the new piece was cut from the leather…
The old piece is at the top, and the new piece is at the bottom…
The index finger side needs to get a suede covering…
Using the existing piece, I traced out a pattern on the suede…
And, cut it out. The old piece will be re-used, but the new piece of suede will cover those stitch lines…
I made a cardboard template for the exposed edge of the suede. This should be able to be used on both gloves, just mirrored.

The finished suede piece.
The two finger sections have been sewn back together and the finished suede piece is in position on the fingers. Looks like everything is aligning properly.
To attach the suede piece, I’ll be using HeatBond.
The HeatBond is first applied to one side…
Then the backing is removed, exposing the adhesive…
Then the suede is placed into position, and pressed with a hot iron until adhesive melts…
Then the suede got a stitch line that runs along the exposed edge…

With the fingers completed, the next part will be the knuckles. The existing Gloves have six ribs, and they should only have four. So, this panel will need to be removed and rebuilt from scratch…
After much fussing with it, I was able to get it broken down into its basic elements…
The elastic band…
The foam…
And, the leather piece…
I’m taking special note of how this is attached…
The leather piece, finally removed…
A new piece of leather…
A old piece and new piece of leather cut to the correct size…
Reconstructing the knuckles is proving to be VERY difficult, due to dealing with the elastic element. I finally figured out that I could do most of the sewing without stretching the elastic by pinning up and sewing the center line first…
Sewing the center line…
The center line from the back side…
The center line from the front side…
The next step is to sew the first and last lines. It sounds easy, but it’s quite tricky to get everything lined up, pinned and sewn. You are basically trying to keep from stretching the elastic, while gathering everything else up underneath it to align the edges of the elastic, foam, and leather…
