A New Slate…
Since I’m not getting anywhere with this, I will need to reassess the initial patterns I created to try and figure out why this isn’t working.
It’s been over two years since I came up with this design, and I’m not really sure I even understand my line of thought at that time…
Going back to basics, I know that the Vest should have “raglan” sleeves. So, I found an old shirt in the closet that has “raglan” sleeves. I think I need to just go to Hobby Lobby and get a shirt blank, with “raglan” sleeves that I can deconstruct, and recreate my pattern.
Well, I went to Hobby Lobby, and they had NO adult shirt blanks with “raglan” sleeves, even though their website says they did. I decided to see if I could just find a pattern. I found this one, that looks promising.
Hopefully, this will work…
I found the correct pattern pieces, and then did a rough determination that the “large” size should be about right for me.

Now, for the back…
The black duck cloth for the back…
Since the back needs to be open, and overlap, I’ll need to make a slight modification. Rather than using a folded piece of cloth, I’ll set the pattern two inches over, and then cut two separate pieces…

Now, for the sleeves. I want to test the fit using a piece of scrap material before I start cutting up my good cloth…
The test sleeve, cut…
This sleeve shape is way different than the initial pattern I created. I think this just may work a lot better.
A quick sleeve test fit.
The test sleeve was a bit long, so I did a rough calculation to try and determine the length I’ll need to make the actual sleeves, leaving a couple of inches extra.
I marked that length on the pattern, for future reference.
I have four pieces of the black cotton cloth, since each sleeve will require two pieces.

After cutting the sleeves, I marked which was which.
I also marked the inside, to try and help keep things organized…
